Tax agent for electricians in Melton.
Whether you're employed under an EBA, working under your ABN as a sole-trader sparkie, or running a Pty Ltd with a couple of apprentices, a Melton-based registered tax agent who already knows the trade saves you the explainer.
Melton's growth corridor runs on power — every new estate, every retrofit, every commercial fit-out passes through a sparkie's hands. We work the way you do: straight up, on time, fixed fee.
Deductions specific to electricians.
Tools and instruments under $300 — immediate deduction
Every drill, multimeter, set of pliers, cable cutter and torque driver under $300 is fully deductible in the year you bought it. Above $300, we add it to your depreciation schedule. We don't lose receipts.
Tools over $300 — depreciation schedule
Cordless drill kits, conduit benders, stud finders, ladder systems and the higher-end test equipment depreciate over their effective life. We track which year each tool entered service and apply the correct rate.
Vehicle expenses — logbook or cents-per-km
Travel between worksites (not from home to your usual base) is deductible. Logbook usually beats cents-per-km for sparkies because of high work-related kilometres. We compare both methods on every return.
Electrical licence and registrations
Your A-grade or REC licence renewal, Energy Safe Victoria registrations, and any state-equivalent fees are all deductible. So is the cost of CPD points to maintain them.
Protective clothing and laundry
Compulsory hi-vis with the company logo, electrically-rated boots, insulated gloves, arc-rated PPE and the laundry costs to maintain them. We claim the laundry under the standard ATO rate or actual costs, whichever is higher.
Phone and internet — work-use percentage
We work out a defensible work-use percentage from a four-week phone diary — most sparkies land at 60–80% work-use. The deduction follows.
Self-education for licence upgrades
Courses to upgrade from A-grade to REC, restricted-electrical to fully-licensed, or to add solar/EV/HVAC streams are deductible. Apprenticeship-stage courses where you're already employed — same.
Union and association fees
ETU dues, NECA membership, Master Electricians Australia fees — all deductible.
What we see at audit.
Driving from home to your usual base or workshop is a private commute, not a deductible work trip — even if you're carrying tools. The deduction starts when you leave the first worksite.
Even if your job is physically demanding, a general gym membership isn't deductible. Only specific fitness costs that are mandated by your employer for operational status would qualify (rare for sparkies).
Plain shorts, plain T-shirts, runners — not deductible even if you only wear them on the tools. Only compulsory uniform or genuinely protective gear counts.
